The number of books children are made to carry, right from the pre-primary classes has become a matter of great concern not only for parents but also for teachers. An Integrated Term Series, Colours, is a result of this concern. Colours, written in accordance with the guidelines of National Curriculum Framework, consists of ten term books from classes 1 to 5. It is a sincere attempt towards enjoyable learning without mental and physical burden.
This, easy to use semester series, has been well planned and designed in such a manner that each Colours series can be used for each term of the school year. Each book is a compilation of lessons of the core subjects – English, Mathematics, Environmental Studies and General Knowledge for that particular term. This eliminates the need for separate text books to be counted and carried everyday from home to school, back and forth.
- This series is well graded and takes the child smoothly from easy to difficult and known to unknown.
- The series is supported with audio-visual CDs that make learning an interactive experience, strongly related to daily life.
- Hands-on activities have been included to develop cognitive and psychomotor skills.
- The series has a powerful visual appeal with multi-coloured illustrations, pictures, diagrams maps, tables and graphic representations.
- The teachers are assisted with Web-Support that includes Lesson Plans, Worksheets, Answer Key to text questions and sample papers.
- In addition, care has been taken to develop certain values and attitudes, like caring for others, compassion and preservation of the environment.
ORGANISATION OF THE COURSE CONTENT
English The reading material in prose and poetry form, has been carefully chosen to motivate the learners to read, think, respond and analyse. It ensures the development of language skills for the purpose of effective communication. It promotes a functional understanding of the grammar, structure and idiom of the language.
Mathematics relates the learner to everyday Life and takes up the study of the subject not only as mere calculations, formulae and data handling but as a platform to allow learners to comprehend, reason, analyse, deduce and then find solutions. The series follows explain-comprehend-practice-essential drill-application approach.
Environmental Studies, given as a separate subject in classes 1 and 2 integrated with topics of Science and Social Studies, is meant to help the learners to know, be aware of, appreciate and care for the environment.
General Knowledge is a mix bag of topics profusely illustrated – plants and animals, Language and Literature, Science and Technology, My India, Around the World, Sports, Brain Strainers, Our Surroundings and General Awareness.
Harmoniously co-ordinated, Colours is in its true sense, an integrated series that makes the transition to senior classes comfortable and easy for the learners.
